Karl Steiner presents After the Building, a new installation examining the life of architecture after construction.

The exhibition begins with a simple question:

What happens when the architect leaves?

Architectural photography often freezes buildings at their most controlled moment. The rooms are empty. The furniture is minimal. Materials are new. Nothing appears to have changed.

Real buildings are different.

They are occupied, altered, repaired, adapted, and sometimes misunderstood.

After the Building explores these changes through a large-scale architectural model, drawings, photographs, material fragments, and documentary studies.

The central model presents a fictional civic building at several moments in its life. Sections of the model are removed to reveal circulation, structural systems, furniture, and evidence of occupation.

The installation deliberately avoids presenting a single finished image.

Instead, it presents architecture as something continuously negotiated between building and user.

Several studies within the exhibition come from observations made during the practice's own projects. Worn surfaces, modified openings, temporary partitions, and informal adaptations become evidence of how people reshape architecture through use.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of conversations with architects, artists, and researchers working on questions of permanence, reuse, and occupation.
